51. The Wild Enchantment Club | Vanishing and becoming more hare

March's monthly wonder quest and private podcast for members of The Wild Enchantment Club

Welcome to March 2026’s Wild Enchantment Club wonder quest and private podcast.

The Wild Enchantment Club is a monthly subscription for fiercely tender-hearted wonder-seekers ready to step outside and nurture a devotional practice of seasonal wild enchantment. In this month’s private podcast episode we explore:

  • Why we know surprisingly little about hares

  • The strange reproductive phenomenon of superfetation where a hare carries two litters at the same time, and the evolutionary wisdom behind it

  • The leveret’s life of radical stillness

  • The breathtaking speed of hares, faster than a cheetah relative to body size

  • The mystery of the Three Hares ancient symbol

  • Why the hare has been sacred, feared, and shape-shifted into across cultures for thousands of years and why its mystery might be the very source of its magic

Please come and join in the conversation in our members-only chat space.

It’s so good to have you here.

March | Vanishing and becoming more hare

“Perhaps the witch-hare’s true magic, I thought, is the wish she inspires, just for a moment, to step out of the human form. To race across the ground with the speed and power of a hare, without tiring; to inhabit its senses and revel in a world of sound, scent and sensation far greater than our own; and to move through the night as effortlessly as if through sunlight.” ― Chloe Dalton, Raising Hare: A Memoir

Welcome to March’s wonder quest and private podcast. The bare hedgerows are decorated with Blackthorn blossom, daffodils, crocuses and tulips are emerging and the sun is breaking through the relentless rain we’ve been having in the UK. March is the time when spring fully emerges with Spring Equinox – where day and night are of equal length – falling on 20th of the month. Spring is about rebirth and fertility after the death of winter and life beginning to emerge and flourish again.

Rabbits and hares have long been associated with fertility and spring (hello Easter bunny), with the expression “mad as a march hare” referring to this beautiful animal’s mating rituals which begin around this time. Yet hares are shy and mysterious creatures with excellent camouflage and hiding skills, allowing them to blend into the land around them. At a time when nature begins to bloom again what would it be like to blend into the land and allow it to unfold around us?
